How to Draw a Walking Cat

14 steps · Medium · about 11 min

Draw a walking cat in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: big round head.

Print

  1. Step 1: Big round head

Near the top left draw a big egg on its side. Puff out each cheek with 2 tiny fur points.

Tip The head is almost as long as the body. Leave room on the right.

  2. Step 2: Pointy ears

On each top corner of the head draw a tall pointy ear. Add a small triangle inside each one.

Tip The left ear is a little smaller, because the head is turned.

  3. Step 3: Two big eyes

On the middle of the head, a little to the left, draw 2 big oval eyes with black dots.

Tip Leave a tiny white shine in each eye.

  4. Step 4: Nose and W smile

Between the eyes and a bit lower, draw a small triangle nose. From its point draw a W smile.

Tip Both smile curves start at the very same spot on the nose.

  5. Step 5: Long back

Start on the head, level with the eyes. Draw a long back, curl round the bottom, stop below chin level.

Tip The line dips down the neck, then runs almost flat.

  6. Step 6: Front leg

Draw a ground line. From under the chin, draw a leg down to a plump paw, then back up.

Tip The leg leans forward and gets thinner near the paw.

  7. Step 7: Tummy and back leg

From the front leg draw the tummy. Then a round thigh down to a paw and up to the bottom.

Tip The back leg bends just above the paw.

  8. Step 8: Far legs

Under the tummy draw 2 more legs peeking out: one leaning back, one leaning forward.

Tip A walking cat moves opposite legs together. All 4 paws sit on the ground.

  9. Step 9: Tail held high

Start on top of the bottom. Draw a thick tail straight up, curl its thin tip over, come back down.

Tip A happy cat walks with its tail up.

  10. Step 10: Toes

On each big paw draw 2 short curved toe lines. Draw 1 on each small paw.

  11. Step 11: Four socks

Start on one side of each leg, above the paw. Draw a short line across. Stop at the other side.

  12. Step 12: Whiskers and stripes

From each cheek draw 2 whiskers out past the head. Hang 3 short stripes from the top of the head.

  13. Step 13: Cream and pink

Colour the 4 socks cream. Colour the nose and the inside of each ear pink.

  14. Step 14: Colour it ginger

Colour the cat ginger, around the socks, the nose and the ear middles. Leave the eyes white.
