How to Draw a German Shepherd

13 steps · Medium · about 10 min

Draw a German shepherd in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: big oval head.

Print

  1. Step 1: Big oval head

Near the top of your paper draw a big oval, a little wider than tall.

Tip Make it big: almost half of the whole dog. Leave room below.

  2. Step 2: Tall pointy ears

Start on the head's top left. Draw a very tall pointy ear up and back to the head. Same right.

Tip Add a smaller ear shape inside each ear.

  3. Step 3: 2 big eyes

At the middle of the head draw 2 egg eyes a gap apart, with a black dot and shine.

  4. Step 4: Snout and nose

Under the eyes draw a wide oval snout. Sit a rounded triangle nose on top and colour it black.

  5. Step 5: Smile and tongue

From the nose draw a line down, then a w smile out to the snout's sides. Add a U tongue.

  6. Step 6: The body

Start under each ear. Draw a big C down to near the bottom. Join the ends with a sagging line.

Tip The body is a bit wider than the head.

  7. Step 7: Chest patch

Draw a U chest patch under the chin, from the left side of the body across to the right.

  8. Step 8: Front legs

Start under the chest. Draw a long U for each front leg, down to the ground and back up.

  9. Step 9: Back paws and tail

Draw a hill paw at each bottom corner. From the right hip draw a bushy tail along the ground.

  10. Step 10: The ground

Start at the left. Draw a long line under all 4 paws across to the right.

  11. Step 11: Crown line

Draw a wavy crown line from ear to ear, dipping in the middle.

  12. Step 12: Pink tongue, tan fur

Colour the tongue pink. Colour the face around the snout top, inner ears, chest patch, legs and paws tan.

    Tip Leave the eyes white.

  13. Step 13: Black saddle

Colour the ears, crown, body and tail black, around the tan. Colour the snout top dark grey.

    Tip Your dog is done!
