How to Draw a Running Cat

13 steps · Medium · about 10 min

Draw a running cat in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: big round head.

Print

  1. Step 1: Big round head

Near the top left draw a big egg on its side. Puff out each cheek with 2 tiny fur points.

Tip Leave lots of room on the right for the long body.

  2. Step 2: Pointy ears

On each top corner of the head draw a tall pointy ear. Add a small triangle inside each one.

Tip The left ear is a little smaller, because the head is turned.

  3. Step 3: Two big eyes

On the middle of the head, a little to the left, draw 2 big oval eyes with black dots.

Tip Leave a tiny white shine in each eye.

  4. Step 4: Nose and W smile

Between the eyes and a bit lower, draw a small triangle nose. From its point draw a W smile.

  5. Step 5: Long low back

Start on the head, level with the eyes. Draw a long low back, curl round the bottom and stop.

Tip The back is long and low, because the cat is stretching right out.

  6. Step 6: Reaching front leg

Draw a ground line. From under the head draw a leg reaching forward to a paw. Stop at the tummy.

Tip The leg is thick at the shoulder and thinner near the paw.

  7. Step 7: Tummy and back leg

From the front leg draw the tummy. Then a leg kicking far back to a paw, up to the bottom.

Tip The back leg pushes off far behind the cat.

  8. Step 8: Far legs

Behind each leg draw a strip of the far leg, with its paw peeking out beside the big paw.

Tip Each pair of legs runs together, with a big gap under the tummy.

  9. Step 9: Flying tail

Start on top of the bottom. Draw a thick tail straight out behind to a thin round tip, and back.

  10. Step 10: Toes

On each big paw draw 2 short curved toe lines.

  11. Step 11: Whiskers and stripes

From each cheek draw 2 whiskers out past the head. Hang 3 short stripes from the top of the head.

  12. Step 12: Pink nose and ears

Colour the nose and the inside of each ear pink.

  13. Step 13: Colour it ginger

Go over your lines, then colour the cat ginger, around the pink nose and ear middles. Leave the eyes white.
