How to Draw a Castle

13 steps · Medium · about 10 min

Draw a castle in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the big tower.

Print

  1. Step 1: The big tower

In the middle of your paper draw a tall block with 5 square teeth along the top.

Tip Taller than wide. The teeth are square blocks with square gaps.

  2. Step 2: Two tall towers

Leave a gap on each side. Start above the block's teeth and draw a tall tower down to its bottom.

Tip Leave the top open. Towers are wider at the foot than the top.

  3. Step 3: Witch hats

On each tower's open top draw a flat hat band poking out past the sides. Add a tall witch hat.

Tip The hat brim sticks out a finger past the band on each side.

  4. Step 4: Walls with teeth

From each tower, draw a wall with 2 teeth across to the block, a foot line and a skinny slit.

  5. Step 5: Gate and bars

Draw a big rainbow gate that starts and stops on the block's bottom line. Add 3 bars down, 2 across.

  6. Step 6: Island and moat

Draw a bowl from one tower foot, under the castle, up to the other. Add a bank and 2 waves.

Tip Keep a strip of grass between the castle and the bank.

  7. Step 7: The drawbridge

Start at each foot of the gate. Draw a line down to the bowl's bottom. Add 2 plank lines.

Tip The bridge is a long plank road across the moat.

  8. Step 8: Rainbow windows

Under each hat band, draw a rainbow window with a flat bottom. Add one more above the gate.

  9. Step 9: Stone blocks

Low on each tower, under the window, draw 2 little rounded bricks, one a bit above the other.

Tip Just a few bricks, not a whole wall.

  10. Step 10: Balls and flags

From a ball on each hat tip, draw a pole and flag back to it. Flag the middle tooth too.

Tip The flags all blow the same way.

  11. Step 11: Stone castle, sandy walls

Colour the block, towers and bands grey and the walls and balls sandy yellow, around the windows and slits.

  12. Step 12: Red roofs, wooden gate

Colour the 2 witch-hat roofs and the 3 flags red. Colour the gate behind its bars and the drawbridge brown.

  13. Step 13: Blue moat, green island

Colour the moat, windows and slits blue and the grass green, around the drawbridge. Go over your lines!
