How to Draw Castanets
Draw castanets in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the first shell.
Step 1: The first shell
Left of the middle draw a round egg shell leaning right, with a small round ear on top.
Tip Castanets are pairs of little wooden shells that clack together.
Step 2: Two big eyes
On the shell draw 2 round eyes side by side. Colour a black dot in each, leaving a shine.
Step 3: Smile and cheeks
Under the eyes draw a small U smile, and a tiny flat oval cheek beside each eye.
Step 4: Its partner
To the right draw the same shell leaning left, so the 2 ears lean close together.
Step 5: The hollow
Inside the second shell draw a smaller egg for the scooped-out hollow.
Step 6: The cord
Dot a hole in each ear. Draw a short cord from hole to hole, with a knot in the middle.
Step 7: Clack lines
In the open gap between the shells, near the bottom, draw 3 short lines for the clacking sound.
Step 8: Ground and notes
Draw a ground line under the shells from left to right, and a music note at each side.
Step 9: Tan hollow, pink cheeks
Colour the hollow light tan and the cheeks pink.
Step 10: Wood shells
Go over your lines. Colour both shells wood brown, around the tan hollow and the cheeks. Leave the eyes white.
Step 11: Red knot
Colour the knot red. Clack clack!
