How to Draw a Cartwheel

Step 1: Tipped-over head

Low on your paper, draw an egg for the head, tipped over so the chin points up and right.

Tip Mid-cartwheel you are upside down, so the head goes low.

Step 2: The face

Draw 2 round eyes with black dots. Between the eyes and chin, draw a small D mouth.

Step 3: Tufty hair

Start on one side of the head. Draw soft tufts round the back, across to the other side.

Step 4: Neck and T-shirt

Draw 2 short neck lines from the chin. From them, draw a T-shirt with short sleeves, back to the neck.

Step 5: Arms out

From each sleeve, draw an arm with a soft elbow, thin at the wrist. One reaches the ground, one points out.

Tip The arms are longer than the head, so the low hand reaches the ground.

Step 6: Mitten hands

From one side of each wrist, draw a round mitten with a thumb bump, back to the other side.

Step 7: Shorts

Start at the far end of the T-shirt. Draw shorts with a wide W bottom, across to the other side.

Step 8: Legs in a V

Start at each shorts leg, draw a long leg with a soft knee, and stop at a thin ankle.

Step 9: Sneakers in the air

On the end of each leg, draw a chunky sneaker pointing up and out, with a curve across the front.

Step 10: Ground and arrow

Draw a long ground line touching the low hand. On the right, add a curved arrow sweeping down.

Tip Only one hand touches the ground; everything else is in the air.

Step 11: Pink mouth, peach skin

Colour the mouth pink. Colour the face, neck, arms, hands and legs peach, around the mouth.

Tip Leave the eyes white.

Step 12: Orange shorts, purple T-shirt

Colour the shorts orange and the T-shirt purple.

Step 13: Brown hair, blue sneakers

Colour the hair brown and the sneakers blue. Go over your lines and you're done!
