How to Draw an Old Man

13 steps · Medium · about 10 min

Draw an old man in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.

Print

  1. Step 1: The head

Near the top of your paper draw an egg for the head, a little narrower at the chin.

Tip Leave most of the page below for the body and legs.

  2. Step 2: The face

Draw 2 eyes, a nose and a smile. Each ear starts on the head, bulges out and ends on it.

  3. Step 3: Glasses and eyebrows

Draw a circle round each eye for the glasses, joined over the nose. Add 2 bushy eyebrows.

  4. Step 4: Side tufts and moustache

Above each ear draw 3 hair bumps, starting and ending on the head. Under the nose draw a fat moustache.

Tip The top of the head stays bald.

  5. Step 5: Neck and cardigan

From the chin draw 2 neck lines down to a round-shouldered cardigan. Add a V collar, front line and button.

  6. Step 6: Long sleeves

From the shoulder and the armpit draw 2 lines down to the wrist for each sleeve. Add a cuff line.

  7. Step 7: Mitten hands

Under each sleeve draw a mitten hand: a round egg bottom with a little thumb pointing in.

  8. Step 8: Walking stick

Draw a thick straight stick from the ground up into the right hand. Curl its hook out the far side.

  9. Step 9: Trousers

Start at the cardigan's bottom left. Draw 2 long trouser legs and end at the cardigan's bottom right.

  10. Step 10: Shoes and ground

Under each leg draw a long rounded shoe, toe pointing out. Draw a ground line under the shoes and stick.

  11. Step 11: Peach skin, pink cheeks

Colour the skin peach, around the cheeks and moustache. Colour the cheeks pink. Leave the eyes white.

  12. Step 12: Green cardigan, grey trousers

Colour the cardigan and its sleeves green, and the trousers grey.

  13. Step 13: Grey hair, brown stick

Colour the side tufts and moustache grey, and the walking stick and shoes brown. Your old man is done!
