How to Draw a Carousel Horse
Draw a carousel horse in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.
Step 1: The head
Left of the middle draw a horse head: a round cheek at the top, a long nose pointing down.
Tip Leave room above for the ears and the canopy.
Step 2: Eye and smile
Draw a big oval eye with a black dot. Dot a nostril and curve a small smile on the nose.
Step 3: Ears and forelock
On top of the head draw 2 pointed leaf ears. Add a tuft of hair falling on the forehead.
Step 4: Neck and body
Start under the chin. Draw the chest, a long tummy, a round bottom, the back, and up the neck.
Tip A thick neck makes the horse look strong.
Step 5: Flowing mane
Start between the ears. Draw 3 wavy locks down the neck, stopping where the back begins.
Tip Round, wavy locks look like hair blowing back.
Step 6: Front legs
Start on the chest. Draw a leg folded at the knee, stopping on the tummy. Reach another forward behind it.
Tip A galloping horse folds its front legs up.
Step 7: Back legs and tail
Start under the tummy. Draw a leg stretching behind, stopping on the bottom. Peek another under it. Add a tail.
Tip The tail grows from the top of the bottom.
Step 8: The saddle
On the back draw a saddle seat with 2 bumps. Hang a cloth under it with a trim line.
Step 9: The bridle
Draw a strap across the nose. Draw another from it, behind the eye, up to the ears.
Step 10: Twisted pole
In front of the saddle draw a tall thin pole, top to bottom, behind the horse. Add slanted stripes.
Tip Slanted stripes make the pole look twisted.
Step 11: Canopy and floor
Across the top draw a band with 5 round bumps under it. Draw a long flat floor under the pole.
Tip The horse hangs in the air between them.
Step 12: Golden yellow
Go over your lines. Colour the pole, the 4 hooves and the saddle trim yellow. Leave the horse white.
Step 13: Pink and red
Colour the mane, forelock and tail pink. Colour the saddle seat and the canopy red.
Step 14: Blue to finish
Colour the saddle cloth, the bridle straps and the floor blue. Your carousel horse is ready to ride!
