How to Draw a Cardigan

12 steps · Medium · about 9 min

Draw a cardigan in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: collar and open front.

Print

  1. Step 1: Collar and open front

Near the top draw a small rainbow collar. From each end draw a front edge down to the bottom.

  2. Step 2: Shoulders and sleeves

From each end of the rainbow slope out over the shoulder, down a long sleeve, and up to the armpit.

  3. Step 3: The sides and hem

From each armpit draw a side down, leaning out. Join each bottom corner to the front edge with a hem.

  4. Step 4: The tee underneath

Start on the left front and draw a U neck hole, stopping on the right. Add a hem curve below.

  5. Step 5: Button band and buttons

Start on each shoulder and draw a band line, stopping at the hem. Add 4 buttons on one band.

  6. Step 6: Two big eyes

On the T-shirt draw 2 big circles. Fill each with a black dot, leaving a shine.

  7. Step 7: Smile and cheeks

Under the eyes draw a wide U smile with a little tongue. Add a small cheek under each eye.

  8. Step 8: Ribbing

Above the hem, start on each side and draw a waistband across, stopping at the button band. Add cuff lines.

  9. Step 9: Knit lines

On each front, start just under the armpit and draw a straight rib line down to the waistband.

  10. Step 10: Ground

Draw a straight line under the hem from left to right for the ground.

  11. Step 11: Cream tee, pink cheeks

Leave the eyes white. Colour the T-shirt cream around the cheeks and tongue, then colour them pink.

  12. Step 12: Teal cardigan, navy buttons

Colour the fronts, sleeves and back collar teal around the buttons, then the buttons navy. Go over your lines.
