How to Draw a Cardboard Box Car
Draw a cardboard box car in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: egg head.
Step 1: Egg head
Near the top of your paper, a little left of the middle, draw a big egg shape for the head.
Tip Leave lots of room below for the box.
Step 2: Happy face
In the lower half of the head draw 2 oval eyes with black dots. Add a wide smile under them.
Step 3: Fringe
Start at the left edge of the head. Draw 3 hair bumps across the forehead. Stop at the right edge.
Step 4: Box side
Leave a gap under the head. Draw a big wide rectangle for the side of the box.
Tip The box is much wider than the child.
Step 5: The body
From under the chin draw 2 round shoulders. Bring both sides straight down to the top of the box.
Step 6: Steering plate
Right of the body, just above the box, draw a tall thin leaning oval. Draw a smaller oval inside it.
Tip A paper plate seen from the side looks like a thin oval.
Step 7: Arms and hands
Draw 2 arms reaching to the plate, each bent at the elbow. Add mitten hands on the rim.
Tip Rub out the body line inside the nearest arm.
Step 8: Top and front
Start at the top left corner. Slant up, go across behind the child, straight down, slant back to the bottom.
Step 9: Flap windscreen
On the front top edge stand a slanted flap, leaning back a little. Draw a window shape inside it.
Tip Rub out the box line inside the flap.
Step 10: Plate wheels
On the side of the box draw 2 big round plates touching the bottom edge. Draw a circle inside each.
Step 11: Lights and ground
On the front draw 2 oval headlights. Rule a ground line under the box.
Step 12: Peach and yellow
Go over your lines. Colour the face and hands peach. Colour the hair and headlights yellow. Leave the eyes white.
Step 13: Light blue and grey
Colour the jumper and the window light blue. Colour the rims of all 3 plates grey.
Tip Leave the middle of each plate white.
Step 14: Cardboard brown
Colour the side, the front and the flap light brown. Colour the inside of the box dark brown.
