How to Draw an Argonaut
Draw an argonaut in 10 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: shell curl.
Step 1: Shell curl
Start on the left. Draw a big curl over the top, round the back and under, stopping near the middle.
Tip An argonaut's shell is thin as paper, and it is wide open at the front.
Step 2: Octopus head
Draw a round head under the start of the curl. Let its back touch the end of the curl.
Step 3: Eyes and smile
On the head draw 2 big round eyes with black dots. Start under the left eye, smile to the right.
Step 4: Coil swirl
Where the curl touches the head, keep curling in to a small swirl and stop in the middle.
Step 5: Ribs
From the swirl draw 7 gently curved ribs out to the edge of the shell.
Step 6: Knobs on the edge
Where each rib meets the edge, draw a little round bump, like a bead.
Step 7: Curly arms
Under the head draw 4 short arms, fat at the top and thin at the curly tips.
Step 8: Bubbles
In front of the shell draw 3 bubbles floating up, each one bigger than the last.
Step 9: Blue bubbles, cream shell
Colour the bubbles light blue. Colour the shell and its knobs cream, pressing lightly so the ribs show.
Step 10: Peach octopus
Colour the head and arms peach. Leave the eyes white. Your argonaut is done!

Your finished drawing
Follow the steps above and this is where you end up: an argonaut, drawn by you.
