How to Draw a Box Turtle
Draw a box turtle in 10 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the box shell.
Step 1: The box shell
Draw a tall dome like an upside-down bowl. From its front corner, draw a band round to the back.
Tip Give the band round ends that poke out a little past the dome.
Step 2: The head
Start low on the front of the shell. Draw an egg-shaped head poking out, curving round to the band.
Tip A box turtle pulls its head right inside its shell.
Step 3: Eye, nose and smile
Draw a big round eye at the front of the head, with a shine. Add a nostril and a smile.
Step 4: Hinge and stubby legs
Draw a short upright hinge line across the band. Under each end of the band, draw a stubby foot.
Step 5: Big hexagon
In the middle of the shell, draw a big hexagon, like a honeycomb cell.
Tip Make it bigger than you think.
Step 6: The plates
Draw a line from each corner out to the shell's edge. Split the 2 side lines like a Y.
Step 7: The ground
Draw one long straight ground line under the shell and feet, from the head to behind the shell.
Step 8: Yellow blotches
Colour the middle hexagon yellow, and a small yellow blotch in each plate around it.
Step 9: Pink cheek, tan skin
Colour a little pink cheek. Colour the head and the 2 stubby feet tan around it. Leave the eye white.
Step 10: Brown shell, wood rim
Go over all your lines. Colour the rim wood brown, and the shell brown around the yellow.

Follow the steps above and this is where you end up: a box turtle, drawn by you.
