How to Draw a Capybara
Draw a capybara in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: big boxy head.
Step 1: Big boxy head
Near the top left, draw a big boxy head with a flat top and a blunt nose.
Tip Leave lots of room on the right for the body.
Step 2: Tiny round ear
At the back of the head top, draw a tiny round ear with a smaller circle inside.
Step 3: One round eye
High on the head, draw one round eye. Colour a black dot in it and leave a white shine.
Tip We see the capybara from the side, so only 1 eye shows.
Step 4: The snout
Start on the head top in front of the eye. Draw a gentle curve down to the chin.
Step 5: Nose and smile
Colour a black nostril high on the snout. From low on its front, draw a short smile inside the snout.
Step 6: Long body
From the back of the head, draw a long bean body round the bottom and back under the chin.
Tip Make it a little higher at the back. Leave room under it for short legs.
Step 7: Front leg
Start on the chest, draw a short leg down to a round paw, and stop back on the tummy.
Tip Rub out the tummy line inside the leg.
Step 8: Back leg
Start on the tummy near the back, draw a short leg with a round paw, and stop on the bottom.
Step 9: Far legs
Add 2 legs peeking out from behind, one beside each near leg. All 4 paws end level.
Tip Only draw the parts you can see.
Step 10: Toes and ground
Draw a ground line under the paws. Add short toe lines: 2 on near paws, 1 on far paws.
Step 11: Tan snout and ear
Colour the snout and the inside of the ear tan.
Step 12: Brown fur
Colour the head, ear, body and legs brown around the tan. Leave the eye white.
