14 steps · Medium · about 11 min

Draw a capybara in a hot spring in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: boxy head.

Print

  1. Step 1: Boxy head

On the left, above the middle, draw a big boxy head with a flat top and a blunt nose.

Tip Leave room on the right for the back, and below for the pool.

  2. Step 2: Tiny round ear

At the back of the head top, draw a tiny round ear with a smaller circle inside.

  3. Step 3: One round eye

High on the head, draw one round eye. Colour a black dot in it and leave a white shine.

Tip We see the capybara from the side, so only 1 eye shows.

  4. Step 4: The snout

Start on the head top in front of the eye. Draw a gentle curve down to the chin.

  5. Step 5: Nose and smile

Colour a big black nostril high on the snout. From low on the front, draw a short smile.

  6. Step 6: Low round back

Start behind the head. Draw a long low round back, stopping on the right at chin height.

Tip The rest of the capybara will be under the water.

  7. Step 7: Wavy water

Start left of the chin. Draw little waves across the capybara, stopping right of its back.

Tip Rub out the lines under the waves: the rest of the capybara is under the water.

  8. Step 8: Rocks round the pool

Draw a curved row of 7 round rocks under the waves, from one end of the waves to the other.

Tip Tuck every other rock behind its neighbours, and rub out the lines inside the rocks.

  9. Step 9: Steam

Start a finger above the back. Draw 3 wiggly steam lines going up, the middle one tallest.

Tip Steam never touches the capybara: leave a gap.

  10. Step 10: Tangerine on top

On the head top, between the snout line and the ear, draw a round tangerine with a pointed leaf.

Tip Keep the head line whole: the tangerine sits on it.

  11. Step 11: Tan snout and ear

Colour the snout and the inside of the ear tan.

  12. Step 12: Orange tangerine

Colour the tangerine orange and its leaf green.

  13. Step 13: Blue water, grey rocks

Colour the rocks grey. Colour the water blue, going around the rocks.

  14. Step 14: Brown fur

Colour the head, ear and back brown, around the tan snout and inner ear. Leave the eye white.
