How to Draw an Alphorn
Draw an alphorn in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the long tube.
Step 1: The long tube
From the right, draw a long thin tube left to its end and back. Leave the right end open.
Tip An alphorn is a very long wooden horn. Make the tube slowly wider toward the right.
Step 2: The bell
From the open end, curve both lines up into a wide bell, and draw an oval opening on top.
Tip The bell rests on the ground, just like a real alphorn.
Step 3: Two big eyes
On the wide part of the bell, draw 2 big round eyes. Colour a black dot in each.
Step 4: A happy smile
Under the eyes, draw a small U smile in the middle.
Step 5: The mouthpiece
At the left end of the tube, draw a small rounded box for the mouthpiece.
Step 6: Three bands
Draw 3 short lines across the tube, spaced out along it, for the bands.
Step 7: The ground
Draw a ground line along the bottom of the horn, a little past both ends.
Step 8: A mountain
Start on the ground at the left, go up to a pointy peak, then down to the tube.
Step 9: Snowy top
Near the peak, draw a wavy line from one side of the mountain to the other for snow.
Step 10: Music notes
Above the bell, draw 2 music notes, each a dot with a stick and a little flag.
Step 11: Tan opening, pink cheeks
Go over your lines. Colour the opening of the bell tan, and colour a pink cheek under each eye.
Step 12: Grey mountain
Colour the mountain grey around its white snowy top.
Step 13: Wood horn, black notes
Colour the horn wood brown around the opening and cheeks, then the note heads black. Leave the eyes white.
