How to Draw a Cake

10 steps · Medium · about 8 min

Draw a cake in 10 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the top layer.

Print

  1. Step 1: The top layer

Start above the middle. Draw a flat oval with 5 frosting bumps in front. Add sides down to a smile.

Tip As wide as your hand: a short round can with a flat top.

  2. Step 2: Top layer drips

From the left and right frosting bumps draw a narrow U drip down with a round blob at the bottom.

Tip Each drip hangs off one bump and comes back up to its other end.

  3. Step 3: Cherry on top

Draw a round cherry in the middle of the top oval. Add a short stem and a fat leaf.

Tip The stem is 2 lines close together. Draw a line down the leaf's middle.

  4. Step 4: The big bottom layer

From the top layer's foot draw a much bigger oval, 7 bumps in front. Add sides down to the bottom.

Tip Its back hides behind the top layer. Join the sides with a smile curve.

  5. Step 5: Drippy icing

From the 3 middle bumps of the big layer draw long narrow U drips with round blobs: long, short, longer.

  6. Step 6: Two cherries

On the ledge beside each bottom corner of the top layer draw a small round cherry with a short stem.

Tip Each cherry sits on the big layer, well in from the edge, touching no other line.

  7. Step 7: A plate

Start left of the cake. Draw an oval plate behind it, a finger under the cake, back to the start.

Tip Skip the part the cake hides.

  8. Step 8: Sprinkles

Between the 2 cherries draw 5 tiny tilted jelly-bean sprinkles. Add 1 more on the top layer between the drips.

Tip Space them out and keep them off the lines.

  9. Step 9: Pink icing, tan cake

Colour the tops, bumps and drips pink, around the cherries and sprinkles. Colour the sides of both layers tan.

  10. Step 10: Red cherries, green leaf

Colour all 3 cherries red with a white shine, and the leaf green. Leave the plate white.
