How to Draw a Yule Log
Draw a yule log in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: a plate.
Step 1: A plate
In the middle of your paper draw a big flat oval for a plate, nearly as wide as the paper.
Step 2: The rim
Draw a second flat oval just inside the plate for the rim.
Step 3: The log
Inside the rim draw a long box lying down, as wide as your hand, rounded at the right end.
Step 4: The cut end
On the left end draw a tall oval standing up, as tall as the log, for the cut face.
Step 5: The swirl
In the cut face draw a spiral: start in the middle and go round and round, getting bigger each time.
Tip Like a snail shell. The cake is rolled up!
Step 6: Bark lines
Along the log draw 3 long wavy bark lines: one high, one in the middle, a shorter one low down.
Step 7: A branch stub
Start on top of the log near the right. Draw a short stump up, across, and back down to it.
Step 8: Holly leaves
On top of the log near the middle draw 2 pointy holly leaves leaning apart, with a line down each.
Step 9: Berries
Where the 2 leaves meet draw 3 little round berries.
Step 10: The table
Draw a line under the plate from well left to well right.
Step 11: Sky plate, cream face
Go over your lines. Colour the plate sky blue around the log, and the cut face and stump top cream.
Step 12: Green holly, red berries
Colour the holly leaves green and the berries red.
Step 13: Brown log, white specks
Colour the log and stump brown, around the cream parts, holly and berries, leaving a few white specks.

Your finished drawing
Follow the steps above and this is where you end up: a yule log, drawn by you.
