How to Draw a Buckeye
Draw a buckeye in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the nut.
Step 1: The nut
Draw a big round nut in the top half of your paper, a little wider than it is tall.
Tip Go slowly round so both sides match.
Step 2: The eye spot
On the upper front of the nut draw a big oval, well inside the edge.
Tip This pale spot is why it is called a buckeye: it looks like a deer's eye.
Step 3: Shines
On the left of the nut draw one curved shine near the edge and a tiny one under it.
Step 4: The husk
Draw a wide bowl over the bottom of the nut: a rim dipping in the middle, then a round bottom.
Tip The husk is the case the buckeye grew in. Rub out the nut line inside it.
Step 5: Prickles right
Draw 3 short pointy prickles on the right side of the husk, each one touching it.
Step 6: Prickles left
Draw 3 matching prickles on the left side of the husk.
Step 7: The ground
Start near the left edge. Draw a straight ground line under the husk to near the right edge.
Step 8: Grass
Start on the ground and flick 2 short grass blades up at each end.
Step 9: Tan eye spot
Go over your lines. Colour the big eye spot pale tan.
Step 10: Brown nut
Colour the rest of the nut dark brown, around the tan spot and down to the husk.
Step 11: Green husk
Colour the husk and its prickles green. Your buckeye is done!
