How to Draw a Suspension Bridge
Draw a suspension bridge in 10 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the deck.
Step 1: The deck
Draw 2 straight lines across the middle, a finger apart. Start at the left edge, stop at the right edge.
Step 2: Two towers
Draw 2 tall towers through the deck, one near each side. Add a short bar across each top.
Tip Towers go from the water nearly to the top of the paper.
Step 3: The cables
Start at the deck's left end. Swoop a cable over both tower tops and stop at the right end.
Tip The cable sags like a big U between the towers.
Step 4: The hangers
Draw straight lines from the cable down to the deck: 3 on each side and 5 between the towers.
Step 5: The river
Under the bridge draw a wavy water line from edge to edge, at the tower feet. Add another lower down.
Step 6: The boat
Sitting on the top wave, draw a little boat: a melon slice with a triangle sail.
Step 7: Sun and cloud
Draw a round sun with 8 short rays in the top left, and a small puffy cloud top right.
Step 8: Yellow sun, grey deck
Colour the sun yellow. Colour the deck light grey, like stone.
Step 9: Blue water
Colour the water blue around the boat, down to the bottom and out to both edges.
Step 10: Red towers, brown boat
Colour the 2 towers red and the boat brown. Leave the sail white. Your bridge is done!
