How to Draw a Branch
Draw a branch in 10 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the branch.
Step 1: The branch
Low left, draw an oval with a ring inside. From it draw a branch rising right, round at the end.
Tip The oval is the cut end. The branch is a thumb thick, thinner at the tip.
Step 2: First twig
A third along, draw a slim twig poking up and left. Rub out the branch line between its sides.
Tip Twigs are thinner at the top than the bottom.
Step 3: Second twig
Two thirds along, draw another slim twig poking up and right. Rub out the branch line between its sides.
Step 4: Leaves on the twigs
On the tip of each twig draw 2 pointed leaves, one leaning left and one leaning right.
Step 5: Two more leaves
Draw one leaf off the round tip of the branch, leaning up-right, and one near the cut end, leaning up-left.
Step 6: Leaf veins
In each leaf draw a thin, gently curved vein from the base up the middle, stopping well before the tip.
Step 7: A knot
Halfway along the branch draw a small sideways egg for a knot in the wood.
Step 8: Bark lines
Draw 3 short bark dashes along the branch: near the cut end, before the knot, and near the tip.
Step 9: Brown branch
Colour the cut end tan. Colour the branch, the knot and both twigs wood brown.
Step 10: Green leaves
Colour all 6 leaves leaf green. Go over your lines and your branch is done!
