How to Draw a Banyan Tree
Draw a banyan tree in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the leafy top.
Step 1: The leafy top
Across the top, draw a very wide flat cloud of round bumps, nearly from edge to edge.
Tip Make it much wider than it is tall, like a giant umbrella.
Step 2: The thick trunk
Start under the leaves near the middle. Draw a side curving in, then out to a root. Do both sides.
Step 3: Two root pillars
Halfway out on each side, draw a slim root from the leaves down to the ground, wider at the foot.
Tip A banyan drops roots from its branches. They grow into new trunks.
Step 4: Two outer pillars
Near each end of the leaves, draw a thinner root pillar down to the ground the same way.
Step 5: Hanging roots
In the gaps, start under the leaves. Draw 4 thin roots hanging down. Stop each one in the air.
Tip Make them different lengths.
Step 6: The ground
Start near the left edge. Draw a long ground line under the trunk and pillars, to near the right edge.
Step 7: Bark lines
Start on the ground inside the trunk. Draw 2 bark lines up, curving like its sides. Stop under the leaves.
Step 8: Grass
Start on the ground past the last pillar. Draw 2 short curved grass blades on each side.
Step 9: Green leaves
Go over your lines, then colour the whole leafy top green, right up to the bumpy edge.
Step 10: Brown trunk
Colour the thick trunk wood brown, from the leaves down to the ground.
Step 11: Brown root pillars
Colour all 4 root pillars wood brown too. Your banyan tree is done!
