How to Draw a Bowtie

9 steps · Medium · about 7 min

Draw a bowtie in 9 easy steps, about 7 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the knot.

Print

  1. Step 1: The knot

In the middle of your paper draw a small soft square with rounded corners, as wide as your thumb.

  2. Step 2: 2 big eyes

On the knot draw 2 big egg eyes one eye apart. Colour a big black dot in each.

  3. Step 3: Smile and cheeks

Under the eyes draw a small U smile. Add a tiny oval cheek a little way out from each end.

  4. Step 4: 2 bow wings

Start on the knot's left side. Draw a big bow wing, back to the knot. Same on the right.

Tip Each wing has a little dip in its outer edge.

  5. Step 5: Fold lines

From the knot draw 2 short fold lines out into each wing, fanning out towards the outer edge.

  6. Step 6: Polka dots

Dot 3 small circles on each wing, one above the fold lines, one between them and one below.

  7. Step 7: Sparkles

Draw 4 sparkle stars round the bow tie, one near each corner of the paper.

  8. Step 8: Yellow sparkles, pink cheeks

Go over your lines, then colour the sparkles yellow and the cheeks pink.

  9. Step 9: Red bow tie

Colour the wings and knot red around the eyes, cheeks and dots. Leave the eyes and dots white.
