How to Draw a Borscht
Draw a borscht in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the rim.
Step 1: The rim
Above the middle draw a wide oval for the top of the bowl, about a hand across.
Step 2: The bowl
Start at the left end of the oval. Draw a deep round U down and back up to the right end.
Step 3: The foot
Under the bowl draw a short stand: start bottom left, go down, across and up to the bottom right.
Step 4: The soup
Inside the rim draw a second oval for the soup. Leave a wider gap at the back.
Step 5: Sour cream
In the middle of the soup draw a big soft blob with a little peak on top. Add a curl inside.
Tip Borscht is a deep red beetroot soup with sour cream on top.
Step 6: Dill
On the right of the dollop draw one pointed dill leaf with a line down its middle.
Step 7: Beetroot cubes
Draw 3 tilted little squares in the soup for beetroot cubes: 2 on the left, 1 on the right.
Step 8: The spoon
On the left draw a spoon resting in the soup: an oval bowl, then a long handle leaning up left.
Step 9: Steam
Above the bowl draw 3 wiggly steam lines going up.
Step 10: The table
Draw a line under the foot from left to right, just touching its bottom.
Step 11: Cream bowl, grey spoon
Go over your lines. Colour the bowl, its rim and the foot cream, and the spoon grey.
Step 12: Green dill, purple beetroot
Colour the dill leaf green and the 3 beetroot cubes purple.
Step 13: Red soup
Colour the soup red around the dollop, dill, cubes and spoon. Leave the sour cream white.
