How to Draw Bookends
Draw bookends in 13 steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: two elephant bodies.
Step 1: Two elephant bodies
On each side draw a tall rounded box for a body, with a round head on top, overlapping a little.
Tip Bookends are a pair, so the right one mirrors the left.
Step 2: Two big eyes
On each head draw 2 round eyes side by side, a little apart. Colour a black dot in each.
Step 3: Trunks
Under the eyes draw a small rainbow. From its ends draw a trunk down, curling out. Add 2 wrinkles.
Tip Rub out the chin line inside the trunk, so the trunk grows out of the face.
Step 4: Ears
On each head draw a big oval ear on the outside, tucked behind, and a smaller ear on the inside.
Step 5: Smiles and cheeks
From each side of the trunk draw a short smile curving up. Add an oval cheek above each.
Step 6: Feet
Under each body draw 2 little round feet peeking out from under the bottom edge.
Step 7: The plates
Under each elephant draw a long flat box on the ground for the metal plate, poking out toward the middle.
Step 8: Five books
Between the 2 elephants draw 5 tall boxes standing on the ground, side by side, some taller and some shorter.
Step 9: Labels and lines
On each book draw 2 lines across near the top for a label, and a short line near the bottom.
Step 10: Ground
Draw a ground line under everything from left to right.
Step 11: Yellow book, pink cheeks
Go over your lines, then colour the middle book yellow and the cheeks pink.
Step 12: Red and blue books
Colour the first and fourth books red and the second and fifth blue. Leave the labels white.
Step 13: Grey elephants
Colour the elephants grey around the pink cheeks, and the plates slate. Leave the eyes white.
