How to Draw a Metal Detector
Draw a metal detector in 13 steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the control box.
Step 1: The control box
A little right of the middle draw a small rounded box tipped on a slant.
Tip A metal detector beeps when its coil passes over buried metal.
Step 2: 2 eyes
On the box draw 2 small round eyes side by side. Colour a black dot in each.
Step 3: A smile
Under the eyes draw a small U smile, starting below one eye and stopping below the other.
Step 4: The shaft
Start at the top right of your paper. Draw 2 close lines slanting down behind the box to bottom left.
Step 5: The grip
At the top end of the shaft draw a short fat grip handle sticking up and out to the right.
Step 6: The coil
Near the bottom of your paper draw a big flat oval on the shaft's end, with a smaller oval inside.
Step 7: Signal lines
Beside the right end of the coil draw 2 curved signal lines, one outside the other.
Step 8: The sand
Draw a gently bumpy sand line right across your paper, from the left edge to the right edge.
Step 9: Buried coin
Right of the coil draw a coin's top half with a ring inside, starting and stopping on the sand.
Step 10: Sun
In the top left corner draw a sun: a circle with short rays around it.
Step 11: Sand and pink cheeks
Go over your lines. Colour the beach sand colour, and 2 pink cheeks beside the smile.
Step 12: Yellow detector and sun
Colour the box yellow around the face, then the coil, coin and sun yellow. Leave the eyes white.
Step 13: Grey shaft and grip
Colour the shaft and grip slate grey. Beep beep, your metal detector has found treasure!
