How to Draw a Bobtail Squid
Draw a bobtail squid in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: round ball body.
Step 1: Round ball body
A little above the middle of your paper draw one round ball, like a dumpling.
Tip A bobtail squid is tiny and round, not a long cone.
Step 2: Wide head
Start low on the left of the ball. Draw a wide bowl down and round, stopping low on the right.
Step 3: Huge eyes
On the head draw 2 huge round eyes with a gap between, each with a black dot and white shine.
Step 4: Small smile
Start under the left eye. Draw a small U smile and stop under the right eye.
Step 5: Two big ear fins
On each side, start on the ball near the top. Draw a big round ear fin out and back.
Tip The round ear fins make it look like a little Dumbo.
Step 6: Middle arms
Under the head draw 2 short arms hanging down, each getting thinner and curling out at a round tip.
Step 7: Side arms
Outside them draw 2 more short curly arms, then 2 more curling out at the sides. None touch.
Step 8: Spots
On the ball draw 5 little round spots of different sizes, scattered about.
Step 9: Seabed and bubbles
Draw a seabed line across the bottom of the paper. Add 3 bubbles on the right floating up.
Step 10: Pale blue spots
Colour the spots on the ball and the bubbles pale blue.
Step 11: Pink cheeks, sandy floor
Add a pink cheek beside each eye. Colour the seabed sand.
Step 12: Purple squid
Colour the ball, fins, head and arms purple, around the spots and cheeks. Leave the eyes white. Done!
