How to Draw a Flying Bluebird
Draw a flying bluebird in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: round head.
Step 1: Round head
On the right side of your paper, half way down, draw a round head, a little wider than tall.
Tip Leave lots of room above it for the wings.
Step 2: Short beak
On the right of the head, draw a short pointed beak, like a small triangle.
Tip Keep the beak short: a bluebird has a small beak.
Step 3: Round eye
Inside the head, near the beak, draw a round eye. Fill a black dot in it, leaving a shine.
Step 4: Plump body
Behind the head, draw a plump egg body lying on its side, with a round chest under the chin.
Tip The body is about twice as long as the head and gets thinner towards the back.
Step 5: Forked tail
From the body's thin end, draw a tail pointing left. Cut a V in its tip and add a line.
Tip The tail grows out of the body and gets a little wider.
Step 6: Big wing
From the shoulder, draw a big pointed wing sweeping up and back. Come down with 4 feather bumps.
Tip The wing starts on the body, just behind the head, never on the head.
Step 7: Second wing
Behind the big wing, draw another pointed wing standing more upright. Only part of it shows.
Tip Start and stop on the edge of the big wing and the back.
Step 8: Feather lines
Inside the big wing, draw 3 short lines. Start each at a dip between the bumps.
Step 9: Chest lines
Draw a line from the head, under the wing, to the tail. Add a curve down to the tummy.
Tip These lines show where the blue, orange and white go.
Step 10: Tucked feet
Under the tummy, draw 2 tiny feet tucked up, each with 3 round toes.
Step 11: Orange chest
Colour the chest and tummy orange, below the long line. Leave the small part by the tail white.
Step 12: Blue feathers
Colour the head, back, both wings and tail blue. Leave the eye white.
Step 13: Grey beak and feet
Go over your lines. Colour the beak and the 2 tiny feet dark grey.
