How to Draw a Runner Duck
Draw a runner duck in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: small round head.
Step 1: Small round head
At the top, in the middle, draw a small round head. Leave room under it: this duck is tall.
Step 2: Flat bill
From the forehead, draw a wide flat bill with a round tip. Add a mouth line from tip to face.
Tip Round the end like a spoon: a sharp point looks like a heron's beak.
Step 3: One big eye
In the middle of the head, draw a big round eye with a black dot and a white shine.
Tip Leave a strip of cheek between the bill and the eye.
Step 4: Neck
From under the head, draw 2 neck lines straight down, spreading out gently at the bottom. Stop a head below.
Tip A runner duck stands up straight: its neck is a post, not an S.
Step 5: Tall bottle body
From the neck, draw a tall bottle body: down the back, round a fat bottom, and up to the front.
Tip Like a bowling pin: narrow at the top, wide at the bottom.
Step 6: Long folded wing
On the body, under the neck, draw a long teardrop wing hanging down the side. Add 3 short feather lines.
Step 7: Tiny tail
From the back, above the fat bottom, draw a small pointed tail up and back, then down to the body.
Step 8: Legs and webbed feet
Under the body, draw 2 short legs, one behind the other. Each has a webbed foot with 3 round toes.
Step 9: Ground and grass
Draw a long ground line under the feet, from edge to edge. Add a grass tuft at each end.
Step 10: Tan duck, orange bill
Colour the head, neck and tall body tan, leaving the wing and the eye white. Colour the flat bill orange.
Step 11: Orange feet, brown wing
Colour both legs and their webbed feet orange. Colour the wing and tail brown.
