How to Draw a Black Mamba
Draw a black mamba in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.
Step 1: The head
Top left, draw a big wide head like an egg on its side. Leave room for the body.
Tip The head is about a third as tall as the whole snake.
Step 2: Two big eyes
In the middle of the head, draw 2 big egg eyes close together. Add dots and shines.
Step 3: Nostrils and open mouth
Dot 2 nostrils under the eyes. Low on the head, draw a wide open mouth like a sideways D.
Step 4: Forked tongue
From inside the mouth, draw a fat tongue poking down past the chin. Split the end into 2 points.
Tip The tongue should not touch the body.
Step 5: Long body
From the right cheek, draw a long tube looping down, flat along the bottom to a point, and back up.
Tip Keep the bottom flat where the tail lies down, with no lumps or kinks.
Step 6: Belly line
Start under the right cheek. Draw 1 long line just inside the outside edge, stopping where the body lies flat.
Step 7: The ground
Start near the left edge. Draw a straight line along the snake's flat bottom to near the right edge.
Step 8: Grass tuft
Near the right end of the ground, draw 3 short grass blades growing up from it, stopping in the air.
Step 9: Cream belly
Colour the belly strip cream.
Step 10: Grey snake
Colour the head and body grey, around the cream belly and the mouth. Leave the eyes white.
Step 11: Red tongue, black mouth
Colour the tongue red. Colour the inside of the mouth black, around the tongue. Your black mamba is done!
Tip A black mouth is why it is called a black mamba.
