How to Draw a Dragonfly
Draw a dragonfly in 10 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: big egg head.
Step 1: Big egg head
Above the centre, draw a big soft egg head, wider than tall. Leave room on both sides for wings.
Step 2: Two huge eyes
In the middle of the head, draw 2 big round eyes almost touching. Add black dots with shines.
Tip Dragonflies have the biggest eyes of any bug.
Step 3: Smile and cheeks
Under the eyes, draw a small U smile from eye to eye. Add a small round cheek beside each end.
Step 4: Long thin body
Under the head, draw a small round chest, then a long thin tail straight down to a round tip.
Tip Long and skinny like a pencil.
Step 5: Tail rings
Across the tail, draw 5 little smile lines, one under the other, from one edge to the other.
Step 6: Top wings
From each side of the chest, draw a long narrow leaf wing out and a little up.
Tip Long and skinny, not round fans.
Step 7: Bottom wings
Under each top wing, draw another long narrow leaf wing out and a little down. Now there are 4.
Step 8: Wing veins
Start at the root of each wing. Draw one thin line down the middle, stopping before the round end.
Step 9: Pink cheeks, sky wings
Go over your lines. Colour the cheeks pink and all 4 wings light sky blue.
Step 10: Blue head and body
Colour the head and body blue, around the eyes and cheeks. Leave the eyes white.
