How to Draw a Papillon
Draw a papillon in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: soft round head.
Step 1: Soft round head
Near the top, draw a big soft egg head, a little flat on top and full at the cheeks.
Tip Leave room underneath for the body and legs.
Step 2: Butterfly ears
On each top corner, draw a huge butterfly-wing ear, bumpy along the outside edge, with a V line inside.
Tip Papillon means butterfly: the big fringed ears are the wings.
Step 3: Two big eyes
Just above the middle of the head, draw 2 egg eyes, a gap apart. Add black dots with shines.
Step 4: Nose
Under the eyes, draw a wide oval inside the head. Sit a black triangle nose on top of it.
Step 5: Smile and tongue
From the nose point, draw a short line down to a w smile. Hang a small U tongue from it.
Step 6: The body
Start under each cheek. Draw a big C down each side, then a short line in. Stop before the middle.
Tip Leave a gap in the middle of the bottom for the front legs.
Step 7: Collar and tag
Under the chin, draw 2 sagging curves from one side of the body over to the other. Add a tag.
Step 8: Front legs
Draw 2 legs from the collar down to round paws, joined by a little arch under the tag.
Tip Give each paw 2 short toe lines.
Step 9: Back paws
At each bottom corner, draw a little hill paw with 2 toes. Run a ground line under all the paws.
Step 10: Plume tail
From behind the right hip, draw a big fluffy plume tail curling up, with soft bumps along the outside.
Step 11: White blaze
Draw 2 lines down the middle of the face, from the top of the head to the nose.
Step 12: Pink tongue, blue collar
Leave the body, legs, paws, tail, blaze and nose patch white. Colour the tongue pink and the collar blue.
Step 13: Brown ears and head
Colour the ears and head brown, around the white blaze and nose patch. Leave the eyes white.
