How to Draw a Basil Plant
Draw a basil plant in 10 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the pot rim.
Step 1: The pot rim
Below the middle draw a flat wide band for the rim of the pot.
Step 2: The pot
Start at the rim's left end. Slope down and in, across the bottom, and up to the right end.
Step 3: The stem
From the middle of the rim draw a thin stem up to the top third, getting narrower as it goes.
Step 4: The bottom leaves
Above the rim draw a big pointed oval leaf off each side of the stem, tipping up, with a vein.
Tip Basil leaves are smooth ovals with a pointed tip, and they grow in pairs.
Step 5: The middle leaves
Halfway up the stem draw a smaller pair of pointed leaves, tucked behind the bottom pair, each with a vein.
Step 6: The top leaves
Near the top of the stem draw an even smaller pair of pointed leaves, each with a vein.
Step 7: A tip sprout
On the tip of the stem draw 2 tiny pointed leaves standing up like a V, hiding the stem's end.
Step 8: The ground
Draw a soft ground line along the bottom of the pot, stopping short of both edges.
Step 9: Green leaves
Go over your lines, then colour all the leaves leaf green.
Step 10: Green stem, orange pot
Colour the stem green and the pot and its rim orange. Your basil plant is done!
