How to Draw a Banh Mi

11 steps · Medium · about 8 min

Draw a banh mi in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: a plate.

Print

  1. Step 1: A plate

In the middle of your paper draw a big flat oval plate. Leave a space at both sides.

  2. Step 2: The rim

Draw a second oval just inside the plate, all the way round, for the rim.

  3. Step 3: Bottom of the loaf

Across the plate draw the bottom half of a long loaf, a fat boat shape leaning up to the right.

Tip A banh mi is a Vietnamese sandwich in a crusty baguette.

  4. Step 4: The crusty top

Above it draw the fat top half, a big round hump from end to end. Leave a gap between them.

  5. Step 5: Crust scores

On the top half draw 3 short slanted lines for the crusty scores.

  6. Step 6: Lettuce

Fill the gap with a frilly lettuce band. Let its bumpy bottom edge hang over the bottom bread.

  7. Step 7: Carrot and cucumber

At the right end draw 2 carrot sticks and a fat cucumber stick poking out of the gap.

  8. Step 8: Herb sprig

At the left end draw 3 little pointed leaves fanning up out of the gap, for fresh herbs.

  9. Step 9: Sky plate, tan bread

Go over your lines. Colour the plate sky blue around the sandwich, then both halves of the bread tan.

  10. Step 10: Orange carrots

Colour the 2 carrot sticks orange.

  11. Step 11: Green lettuce and herbs

Colour the lettuce, the cucumber and the herb leaves green, and your banh mi is done!
