How to Draw a Ruler

11 steps · Medium · about 8 min

Draw a ruler in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the long ruler.

Print

  1. Step 1: The long ruler

Draw a tall thin box standing straight up, from near the top of your paper almost to the bottom.

Tip About 3 times taller than it is wide.

  2. Step 2: A happy face

Above the middle, a little right, draw 2 big round eyes with black dots and a small U smile.

  3. Step 3: Long tick marks

Start on the left edge near the top and draw a short line in. Do 10, a thumb apart.

  4. Step 4: Short tick marks

Between each pair of long ticks, start on the left edge and draw a shorter tick, half as long.

  5. Step 5: The scale line

From the top edge draw 1 long line straight down to the bottom edge, just past the tick ends.

  6. Step 6: The hole

Near the top, on the right half, draw a small round hole for hanging the ruler up.

  7. Step 7: Rosy cheeks

Colour a small pink oval under each eye, just beside the ends of the smile.

  8. Step 8: The ground

Draw a ground line under the ruler, starting past its left side and stopping past its right side.

  9. Step 9: Sparkles

Draw 3 sparkle stars around the ruler, like a plus sign with curvy sides.

  10. Step 10: Yellow sparkles

    Colour the 3 sparkles yellow.

  11. Step 11: Wooden ruler

Go over your lines, then colour the ruler tan around the cheeks. Leave the eyes and the hole white.
