How to Draw a Backhoe
Draw a backhoe in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the cab.
Step 1: The cab
In the middle of your paper draw a tall box for the cab with soft top corners.
Step 2: The big window
Inside the cab draw a big square window taking up most of the cab.
Step 3: Big eyes and smile
In the window draw 2 big round eyes with a gap between, and one wide U smile under them.
Step 4: Hood and back box
In front of the cab draw a lower box for the engine hood. Behind the cab draw another low box.
Step 5: Wheels
Under the hood draw a round wheel with a hub. Under the back draw a much bigger one.
Tip Little wheels in front and big ones behind, like a tractor.
Step 6: The front loader
From the cab's front draw a fat stick forward past the hood, ending in a wide scoop on the ground.
Step 7: The digging arm
From the back box draw a fat stick up to a round elbow, then a second one down.
Step 8: The digging bucket
On the end of the second stick draw a bucket, a box with zigzag teeth along the bottom.
Step 9: Leg, stack and light
Draw a leg from the back box down to a foot, a stack on the hood and a roof light.
Step 10: The ground
Rule one straight ground line from edge to edge under the wheels, the scoop and the foot.
Step 11: Yellow machine
Go over your lines. Colour the machine, arms and leg yellow around the window, and the roof light orange.
Step 12: Sky window, grey parts
Colour the window sky blue around the eyes. Colour the buckets, foot, elbow, hubs and stack grey.
Tip Leave the eyes white.
Step 13: Dark tyres, black pupils
Colour the tyres dark grey around the hubs, then a black pupil in each eye, leaving a shine.

Your finished drawing
Follow the steps above and this is where you end up: a backhoe, drawn by you.
