How to Draw a Dune Buggy

10 steps · Medium · about 8 min

Draw a dune buggy in 10 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: two bumpy tyres.

Print

  1. Step 1: Two bumpy tyres

Low down draw a small bumpy tyre on the left and a huge one on the right. Add rims.

Tip The back tyre is half as big again: dune buggies have huge knobbly back tyres.

  2. Step 2: Low open tub

Over the tyres draw a low open tub: a sloping nose, arches over the tyres, a little engine behind.

Tip No doors and no roof: like a low open bathtub.

  3. Step 3: The driver's head

Above the tub draw a U face. From its front draw a cap over to the back, with a bill.

  4. Step 4: Eyes and smile

Draw 2 round eyes with dots, clear of the face line. Under them draw a small smile.

  5. Step 5: Shoulders and roll cage

Draw a neck and shoulders down to the tub. Arch a fat roll cage from the tub over the head.

Tip The cage is a big upside-down U over the driver, like a basket handle.

  6. Step 6: Steering wheel and arm

From the dash draw a short stick up to a slim oval wheel. Bend an arm, hand on the rim.

Tip Keep the wheel low in front of the chest, not up by the face.

  7. Step 7: Bumper, flag and ground

Add a nose bumper. From the tub's back draw a thin pole up to a flag. Draw the ground line.

Tip Every dune buggy has a tall whip flag to be seen over sand hills.

  8. Step 8: Yellow flag, peach skin

Colour the flag yellow. Colour the driver's face, neck, arm and hand peach. Leave the eyes white.

  9. Step 9: Orange tub, red shirt

Colour the whole tub orange, nose and all. Colour the cap, bill and shirt red, around the arm.

  10. Step 10: Grey metal, black tyres

Colour the cage, rims, bumper, engine and steering wheel grey, around the hand. Tyres and wells black, around rims.
