How to Draw a Baby Zebra

18 steps · Tricky · about 14 min

Draw a baby zebra in 18 steps, about 14 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: big egg head.

Print

  1. Step 1: Big egg head

Near the top left draw a big egg head, a little taller than wide and rounder at the top.

Tip Leave room above for the ears and on the right for the body.

  2. Step 2: Round ears

On each top corner draw a round leaf ear with a small leaf inside. The left ear is smaller.

  3. Step 3: Big eyes

On the middle of the head, a little to the left, draw 2 big oval eyes with black dots.

Tip Leave a tiny white shine in each eye.

  4. Step 4: Soft nose

Under the eyes draw a big oval nose poking past the head. Add 2 nostrils and a smile.

Tip Rub out the head line inside the nose.

  5. Step 5: Neck and back

Start on the head beside the eye. Slope down the neck, along the back, and stop under the round bottom.

Tip A baby zebra has a short back and long legs.

  6. Step 6: Brush mane

Start behind the head. Draw 4 bumps of hair standing up along the neck, stopping where the back goes flat.

Tip Every bump starts and stops on the neck line.

  7. Step 7: Front leg

Draw a ground line. From under the chin draw the chest, a leg down to a hoof, and back up.

Tip A hoof is a little wedge with a line across its top.

  8. Step 8: Tummy and back leg

From the front leg draw the tummy. Then a round thigh down to a hoof and up to the bottom.

Tip The back leg bends backwards half way down.

  9. Step 9: Far legs

Under the tummy draw 2 more legs peeking out, each with a hoof and a line across it.

Tip All 4 hooves stand on the ground line.

  10. Step 10: Tufty tail

From the top of the bottom, draw a thin tail hanging down. Add a leaf-shaped tuft on the end.

  11. Step 11: Body stripes

Draw 4 pointed stripes hanging down from the back. Draw 2 more pointing in from the bottom.

Tip Each stripe starts on the outline and narrows to a point. Leave white between them.

  12. Step 12: Neck and head stripes

Draw 2 pointed stripes hanging from the neck line. Hang 3 short ones from the top of the head.

  13. Step 13: Leg stripes

Draw 2 bands across each big leg and 1 band across each far leg.

Tip A band is 2 short lines from one side of the leg to the other.

  14. Step 14: Grey nose, peach ears

Colour the nose grey and the inside of each ear peach. Leave the rest of your zebra white.

Tip A zebra is white with black stripes, so the paper does the white for you.

  15. Step 15: Dark hooves

Colour all 4 hooves dark grey.

  16. Step 16: Black mane and tail

Colour the mane and the tail tuft black.

  17. Step 17: Black body stripes

Colour every stripe on the body, the neck and the head black.

  18. Step 18: Black leg stripes

Colour the bands on the legs black and go over all your lines. Your baby zebra is done!
