How to Draw a Baby Dragon

15 steps · Tricky · about 11 min

Draw a baby dragon in 15 steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: huge head.

Print

  1. Step 1: Huge head

On the left, draw a huge bumpy egg on its side. Add a chubby snout bump at the bottom left.

Tip A baby dragon is nearly all head. Leave room above for horns.

  2. Step 2: Horns and spikes

On top of the head, draw 2 curved horns leaning back. Add 3 little triangles down the back.

Tip Rub out the head line under each spike.

  3. Step 3: Two big eyes

Halfway down the head, draw 2 big oval eyes close together. Add black dots and shines. Keep the eyes white.

Tip Each eye is about as wide as a horn.

  4. Step 4: Smile, fang and nostril

Start on the snout. Draw a long smile that stops under the back eye. Add a tiny fang and nostril.

Tip Keep the smile clear of the eyes.

  5. Step 5: Ground line

Draw a long straight ground line low across the paper, from under the snout to past the tail.

Tip Leave a gap under the head as tall as the head, for the body.

  6. Step 6: Back and bottom

Start at the back of the head. Draw one line bulging into a round bottom, down to the ground.

Tip One smooth stroke like the side of a pear.

  7. Step 7: Tummy and plate

Start under the chin. Draw a fat C tummy down to the ground. Add a tall plate with 3 smiles.

Tip The plate is about half as wide as the tummy.

  8. Step 8: Near front leg

Start low on the tummy line. Draw a fat mitten paw on the ground, then back up to the plate.

Tip Add 2 toe lines. Rub out the tummy line inside the paw.

  9. Step 9: Far front leg

Start on the plate's right edge. Draw the far leg down to a mitten paw, back to the plate.

Tip Add 2 toe lines. The far leg peeks out behind the plate.

  10. Step 10: Back foot and thigh

Draw a bun foot by the far paw. From the back, draw a C thigh down to the foot.

Tip Rub out the back line inside the foot. Add 1 toe line.

  11. Step 11: Tiny wing

Start under the last spike. Draw a short cone arm, then 3 saggy curves down to the back.

Tip Add 3 ribs. Keep the wing small, only a little bigger than an eye.

  12. Step 12: Tail and spade

From the bottom, draw a fat tail curving up. Add an arrowhead on the end and 3 triangles on top.

Tip Keep the tail off the ground.

  13. Step 13: Cream tummy, pink cheek

Colour the tummy plate, the 2 horns and the tail spade cream. Add a pink cheek under the back eye.

  14. Step 14: Sky-blue scales

Colour the head, body, legs and tail sky blue, around the cheek. Leave the eyes white.

  15. Step 15: Orange wing and spikes

Colour the tiny wing and all the spikes orange.
