How to Draw Antarctica

14 steps · Medium · about 11 min

Draw Antarctica in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the ice shelf.

Print

  1. Step 1: The ice shelf

Low down, start at the left edge. Draw a bumpy snow line, a cliff down, then back to the edge.

  2. Step 2: Big egg head

High above the ice, a little left of the middle, draw a big egg for the head.

Tip Leave room under it for the body and feet.

  3. Step 3: The beak

In the lower half of the head, draw a small rounded triangle beak, point down.

  4. Step 4: Two big eyes

Above the beak, draw 2 big egg eyes, a gap apart. Add big black dots with a white shine.

  5. Step 5: White face

Start on the left cheek. Draw a big upside-down U over the eyes and stop on the right cheek.

Tip Keep the black band the same thickness all round, like a hood.

  6. Step 6: Plump body

Start on the left cheek. Draw a big fat egg body down and back up to the right cheek.

Tip The body is a little wider than the head, fattest near the bottom.

  7. Step 7: Two flippers

Start on the body under each cheek. Draw a fat paddle flipper out, down and back to the body.

Tip Rub out the body line between the ends.

  8. Step 8: White tummy

Start where the white face ends on the left. Draw a big U inside the body, stopping on the right.

Tip Leave a band of black around the tummy.

  9. Step 9: Two feet

Under the body, draw 2 wide feet with 3 round toes each, standing on the snow line.

Tip Rub out the lines inside the feet.

  10. Step 10: The sea line

Start at the bottom of the cliff. Draw a straight sea line across to the right edge.

  11. Step 11: The iceberg

Start on the sea line. Zigzag up to 2 sharp peaks, then back down to the line.

Tip An iceberg is all sharp corners, like broken glass.

  12. Step 12: Snowflakes

In the sky, draw 3 small snowflakes, each a little star of 3 crossing lines.

  13. Step 13: Orange and blue

Colour the beak and feet orange, and the sea blue, up to the ice and iceberg.

  14. Step 14: Black penguin

Colour the head, body and flippers black, around the feet. Leave the face, eyes, tummy, ice and iceberg white.
