How to Draw an Amoeba

10 steps · Medium · about 8 min

Draw an amoeba in 10 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: top and side arms.

Print

  1. Step 1: Top and side arms

Start on the left. Draw a round hill over the top, then 2 fat finger bumps. Stop underneath them.

Tip Make the bumps round and soft, not pointy.

  2. Step 2: Bottom arms

Start where you stopped. Draw 2 more fat finger bumps underneath and stop back at the beginning.

Tip An amoeba stretches its arms any way it likes, so no two look the same.

  3. Step 3: Two big eyes

In the middle of the blob draw 2 big round eyes a finger apart, with a dot and shine.

  4. Step 4: Happy smile

Start under the left eye and draw 1 wide U smile across to under the right eye.

  5. Step 5: Two cheeks

Draw a small oval cheek on each side of the smile.

  6. Step 6: The nucleus

On the right side of the blob draw 1 round circle. This is the nucleus, the amoeba's control centre.

  7. Step 7: Three bubbles

Draw 3 small bubbles of different sizes: 1 in each of 3 arms.

Tip The bubbles hold the amoeba's food and water.

  8. Step 8: Pink and yellow

Colour the 2 cheeks pink and the 3 bubbles yellow.

  9. Step 9: Blue blob

Colour the blob light blue, going around the eyes, cheeks, bubbles and nucleus. Leave the eyes white.

  10. Step 10: Purple nucleus

Colour the nucleus purple. Go over your lines and your amoeba is done!
