How to Draw an Alaska Map

14 steps · Medium · about 11 min

Draw an alaska map in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the straight side.

Print

  1. Step 1: The straight side

Start near the top right. Draw a long straight line down. Stop past the middle.

Tip Alaska is the biggest state in the USA. This straight side touches Canada.

  2. Step 2: The long tail

Carry on from there. Draw a bumpy line slanting down to the right. Stop near the right edge.

  3. Step 3: The south coast

Start where you stopped. Go back up beside the tail, then draw a bumpy coast left. Stop at a point.

Tip Keep the tail thin, about as wide as your finger.

  4. Step 4: The thin bay

Carry on from there. Go up into a thin pointed bay, then come back down beside it.

  5. Step 5: The long arm

Carry on from there. Draw a long wavy line slanting down to the left. Stop at a sharp point.

Tip This long arm of land reaches out into the sea.

  6. Step 6: Back up the arm

Start at the sharp point. Go back up beside your line, then round a small bay. Stop at a corner.

  7. Step 7: The west coast

Carry on from the corner. Draw the coast up, bulging out to the left, then cutting in. Stop there.

  8. Step 8: The pointing nose

Carry on from there. Draw out to a point on the left and back, then up. Stop at a corner.

Tip The tip of this nose points across the sea to Asia.

  9. Step 9: The top

Carry on from there. Go up to the top point, then slant down to the right. Join your first line.

  10. Step 10: The islands

Below the long arm draw 1 bean island. Past the sharp point draw 3 small islands in a trail.

  11. Step 11: The tall mountain

In the middle of the map draw 1 big triangle mountain.

Tip This is Denali, the tallest mountain in North America.

  12. Step 12: The capital dot

Inside the tail on the right, draw a small round dot for the capital city, Juneau.

  13. Step 13: Green land

Go over your lines. Colour all the land green, around the mountain and the dot. Colour the 4 islands too.

  14. Step 14: Brown and red

Colour the mountain brown and the dot red. Your map of Alaska is done!
