11 steps · Medium · about 8 min

Draw a simple zentangle in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the square.

Print

  1. Step 1: The square

In the middle of your paper draw a big square with straight sides and soft corners, nearly as big as your page.

Tip A zentangle is a shape split into sections, each filled with an easy pattern.

  2. Step 2: 2 slanted lines

Draw a line from the top left corner down to the bottom right. Another from bottom left to top right.

  3. Step 3: Stripes on top

In the top triangle draw 4 straight lines across. Start each on the left edge and stop on the right.

  4. Step 4: Bubbles on the right

In the right triangle draw 6 round bubbles, big ones near the middle and little ones near the corner.

  5. Step 5: Scales at the bottom

In the bottom triangle draw rows of fish scale bumps, each row from the left edge across to the right.

  6. Step 6: Lines down, left

In the left triangle draw 4 lines straight down. Start each on the top edge and stop on the bottom.

  7. Step 7: Lines across the left

Now draw 5 lines across the left triangle. Start each at the square's edge and stop at a slanted edge.

  8. Step 8: Sparkles

Draw 4 sparkle stars off the corners of the square.

  9. Step 9: Yellow grid, sparkles

Go over your lines, then colour the left triangle and the 4 sparkles yellow.

  10. Step 10: Peach scales, blue stripes

Colour the bottom triangle peach behind the scales, and every other stripe sky blue.

  11. Step 11: Pink triangle, teal bubbles

Colour the right triangle pink around the bubbles, then the bubbles teal. Your zentangle is done!
