How to Draw a Zebra

14 steps · Tricky · about 11 min

Draw a zebra in 14 steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.

Print

  1. Step 1: The head

Near the top left of your paper draw a big round head with soft cheeks. Leave room on the right.

Tip A big head makes it cute: as big as the body is deep.

  2. Step 2: Eyes and nose

Draw 2 big oval eyes in the middle of the head. Add an egg nose, 2 nostrils and a smile.

  3. Step 3: The ears

On each top corner of the head draw a leaf ear pointing up. Add a smaller leaf inside each.

  4. Step 4: Neck and mane

From behind the head and from the chin, draw 2 neck lines down to the right. Add a bumpy mane.

  5. Step 5: The body

Start at the neck bottom. Draw a big bean body with a round bottom, back to the neck.

Tip A bean, not a loaf: the bottom is rounder and higher.

  6. Step 6: Two legs

Draw a ground line. From the chest draw a front leg, thinner down to a hoof. Add a back leg.

Tip Each leg is thicker at the top, like a carrot.

  7. Step 7: The far legs

Draw 2 more legs peeking out from behind the first ones. Start under the tummy and stop at a hoof.

  8. Step 8: The tail

Start at the top corner of the bottom. Draw a thin tail hanging down, ending in a leaf tuft.

  9. Step 9: Body stripes

Draw 6 curved stripes hanging from the back line, and 2 on the neck under the mane.

Tip Stripes are soft bands with rounded ends, not triangles.

  10. Step 10: Head stripes

Draw 3 little rainbow stripes on the forehead, between the ears.

  11. Step 11: Grey nose

Go over your lines. Colour the nose grey. Leave the body and the eyes white.

  12. Step 12: Peach ears, grey hooves

Colour the inside of the ears peach and the hooves dark grey.

  13. Step 13: Black stripes

Colour all the stripes on the body, neck and forehead black.

  14. Step 14: Black mane and tuft

Colour the mane and the tail tuft black. Your zebra is done!
