How to Draw a Zebra Running
Draw a zebra running in 16 steps, about 12 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.
Step 1: The head
Near the top left draw a big round head with soft cheeks. Leave room on the right for the body.
Tip A big head makes it cute: about as big as the body is deep.
Step 2: Big eyes
In the middle of the head draw 2 big round eyes, each with a big dot and a shine.
Step 3: The snout
Under the eyes draw a big egg snout that hangs below the chin. Add 2 small nostrils and a smile.
Tip Keep the nostrils small and high, so the snout does not look like a second face.
Step 4: The ears
On each top corner of the head draw a leaf-shaped ear pointing out. Draw a smaller leaf inside.
Step 5: The neck
From behind the head and from the chin, draw 2 neck lines sloping down right. Stop below the snout.
Tip The neck grows out from behind the head and gets wider toward the body.
Step 6: The mane
Along the back neck line draw 5 round bumps for the mane, from behind the head to the end.
Tip Keep the bumps round and all about the same size.
Step 7: The body
From the neck draw a big bean body: a long back, around a big bottom and back along the tummy.
Tip The chest bulges out a little under the neck.
Step 8: Ground and front leg
Draw a ground line. Under the chest draw a front leg reaching forward, slim at the bottom, to a hoof.
Tip Give it a soft knee. The hoof stays just above the ground.
Step 9: The back leg
From the big bottom draw a wide back leg kicking back. Bend it at the heel, then add a hoof.
Step 10: The far legs
Draw 2 far legs peeking out from behind, standing straight down with their hooves flat on the ground.
Tip Only draw the parts you can see.
Step 11: Streaming tail
From the top corner of the bottom draw a tail, wide then thin, streaming back to a leaf-shaped tuft.
Step 12: Body stripes
Draw 5 solid black wedge stripes hanging from the back, and 2 across the neck, a little below the mane.
Tip Each stripe is fat at the top and pointy at the end. Leave the legs plain.
Step 13: Head stripes
Draw 3 little black rainbow stripes on the forehead, between the ears.
Step 14: Grey snout
Go over your lines. Colour the snout grey. Leave the rest of the zebra and the eyes white.
Step 15: Peach ears, grey hooves
Colour the inside of the ears peach and the 4 hooves dark grey.
Step 16: Black mane and tuft
Colour the mane and the tail tuft black. Your zebra is done!
