How to Draw an Otter Holding Hands

18 steps · Tricky · about 14 min

Draw an otter holding hands in 18 steps, about 14 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: first head.

Print

  1. Step 1: First head

On the left of your paper draw a wide head with fat cheeks and a wide chin.

Tip Each head is a bit more than a third of the paper wide.

  2. Step 2: Second head

Beside it on the right draw the same wide head. Leave a small gap between the heads.

  3. Step 3: Muzzles and noses

Low on each face draw a wide flat oval. Add a black nose on top of each oval.

  4. Step 4: Small ears

Draw a small half-circle ear halfway down each side of each head.

  5. Step 5: First otter's eyes

Above the oval on the left otter draw 2 big round eyes, each with a black dot and a shine.

  6. Step 6: Second otter's eyes

Give the right otter 2 big round eyes the same way.

  7. Step 7: Two smiles

Under the point of each nose draw a little w smile.

  8. Step 8: Whiskers

Start on the edge of each oval. Draw 2 short whiskers towards each cheek. Stop well before the head line.

  9. Step 9: First body

Start under the left otter's cheek. Draw a pear body down and round, and stop under the other cheek.

Tip Shorter than the head, with shoulders narrower than the cheeks.

  10. Step 10: Second body

Start under the right otter's outer cheek. Draw the same pear body, and stop under its other cheek.

  11. Step 11: Outside arms

On the outer side of each body, slope an arm in to a mitten paw resting on the tummy.

  12. Step 12: A reaching arm

From the left otter's inner shoulder draw a short thick arm into the gap. End it in a round paw.

  13. Step 13: Holding hands

Draw the right otter's arm reaching back the same way, so its paw tucks behind the first paw.

Tip Sea otters hold hands so they do not float apart!

  14. Step 14: Water line

Draw a wavy water line from the left edge to the right edge. It hides the bottom of each tummy.

Tip Rub out the tummy lines under the water.

  15. Step 15: Ripples

In the water draw 4 short curved ripple lines, spread out.

  16. Step 16: Cream and tan

Go over your lines. Colour the nose ovals cream and the tummies a light tan, around the arms.

  17. Step 17: Brown fur

Colour the heads, ears, arms and paws brown, around the nose ovals. Leave the eyes white.

  18. Step 18: Blue water

Colour the water blue, from the wavy line right down to the bottom of the paper.
