How to Draw Yarn
Draw yarn in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: ball of yarn.
Step 1: Ball of yarn
In the middle draw one big round circle, about as wide as your hand, leaving room under it.
Step 2: Eyes and cheeks
In the middle draw 2 big egg eyes with a black dot and a shine. Add 2 oval cheeks below.
Step 3: Big smile
Under the eyes draw a wide open smile like a D on its back, with a little tongue inside.
Step 4: Yarn over the top
Start on the left edge. Draw 3 close curves over the top of the ball, stopping on the right edge.
Step 5: Yarn under the chin
Start on the left edge. Draw 3 close curves under the mouth, stopping on the right edge.
Step 6: Yarn round the sides
Between the top and bottom curves, draw 3 close curves down the left side. Do both sides.
Step 7: Loose strand
From the right edge of the ball, draw a loose strand down low, ending in a little curl.
Step 8: Ground line
From the ball, just above its bottom, draw a long straight ground line out to each side, under the curl.
Step 9: Shadow
Start on the ground left of the ball. Dip under the ball, back up to the ground on the right.
Step 10: Pink cheeks
With a pink crayon, colour the cheek ovals and the tongue.
Step 11: Red yarn
Colour the ball red around the eyes, cheeks and mouth. Leave the eyes white.
Step 12: Black mouth, grey shadow
Colour the inside of the mouth black, leaving the pink tongue. Colour the shadow grey. Your yarn is done!
