How to Draw a Wolf

14 steps · Medium · about 11 min

Draw a wolf in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.

Print

  1. Step 1: The head

A little left of the middle draw the head like a big egg tipped up to the right.

Tip Fatter at the cheek end. Leave room below and to the left.

  2. Step 2: Snout and nose

From the top front of the head draw a short fat snout aimed up. Add a big black nose.

Tip The snout is about half as long as the head is wide.

  3. Step 3: Two pointy ears

On top of the head draw 2 pointy ears leaning back. Draw a small triangle inside each.

Tip Wide at the bottom, like a triangle. The second ear is smaller.

  4. Step 4: Big eye and brow

In the front half of the head draw a big round eye with a black dot. Add a brow above.

Tip One eye only: we see the wolf from the side. Leave a white shine.

  5. Step 5: Open jaw

Start halfway along the snout underneath. Draw a short wedge jaw out to a chin and back to the throat.

Tip Close the V with a short curve: the howl.

  6. Step 6: Tongue and moon

Inside the V draw a small hill tongue on the jaw. Draw a round moon where the snout points.

  7. Step 7: Ground and cheek ruff

Draw a ground line low across the paper. Then draw 3 soft fur hills under the head, ear to throat.

Tip Each hill is as tall as the eye. Rub out the head line inside.

  8. Step 8: Neck ruff and back

Start behind the ear. Draw 3 more hills down the neck, then a line down the back to the ground.

Tip The back bows out a little, then rounds under into the bottom.

  9. Step 9: Thigh and back paw

Start halfway down the back. Draw an egg thigh, a short shin and a flat paw. Stop on the ground.

Tip Like a folded leg: fat egg, thin shin, flat foot. Add 2 toe bumps.

  10. Step 10: Chest and front leg

Start at the throat. Draw the chest bulging, then a leg down to a round paw. Stop on the ground.

Tip Thin at the wrist. The paw puffs out wider, flat on the ground.

  11. Step 11: Paws and tummy

Start under the front paw. Go up the leg and along the tummy, stopping on the thigh.

Tip Go back along the ground first. Add 2 toe bumps and a far paw.

  12. Step 12: Bushy tail

From the back by the thigh draw a thick tail out left, up to a point. Stop on the bottom.

Tip Thick at the root, thin at the tip, off the ground. 4 fur bumps.

  13. Step 13: Yellow moon, grey wolf

Go over your lines. Colour the moon yellow and the wolf grey. Leave the eye white.

Tip Do not colour the mouth or the insides of the ears yet.

  14. Step 14: Pink ears, red mouth

Colour the ear insides and the tongue pink. Then colour the mouth red around the tongue.
