How to Draw an Arowana
Draw an arowana in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: long flat body.
Step 1: Long flat body
Start near the right, above the middle. Draw a long flat body with a blunt head, stop under your start.
Tip An arowana is long and flat, like a gold ruler.
Step 2: Eye and smile
Draw a big eye. From the snout tip draw a short smile that curls up.
Tip Keep the smile short, well in front of the eye.
Step 3: 2 chin whiskers
Under the smile draw 2 short soft whiskers poking forward and down from the chin, side by side.
Tip Arowanas wear 2 little feelers on the chin, like a moustache.
Step 4: Round fan tail
Start at the end of the back. Draw a rounded fan tail and stop at the end of the tummy.
Step 5: Long low fins
On the back half, start on the back and draw one long low fin, stop before the tail. Same underneath.
Step 6: Gill
A little behind the eye, start below the back line. Draw one short C and stop above the tummy line.
Step 7: Side fin
From the gill near the tummy draw a small fan fin pointing back and down, ending lower on the gill.
Step 8: Huge scales
Behind the gill draw 2 rows of 3 soft C shapes for the scales, bowed toward the tail.
Tip Keep the scales off the fins, the gill and the eye.
Step 9: Bubbles
Above the snout draw 3 bubbles floating up: a small one, a bigger one, and the biggest at the top.
Step 10: Sand and seaweed
Draw a wavy sand line from edge to edge. Grow 3 wavy seaweed blades from it with pointed tops.
Step 11: Gold fish
Colour the body and whiskers yellow around the side fin, leaving the eye white.
Step 12: Orange fins, sandy floor
Colour the tail and all the fins orange, and colour the floor under the sand line sandy.
Step 13: Blue bubbles, green seaweed
Colour the bubbles light blue and the seaweed green. Go over your lines and your arowana is done!
