How to Draw a Wire
Draw a wire in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: front circle.
Step 1: Front circle
A little left of the middle of your paper draw a big round circle, as big as your fist.
Step 2: Back circle
Draw another circle the same size up to the right, tucked behind the first, leaving a wide strip between.
Tip The wide strip is where the wire goes round and round.
Step 3: Two big eyes
In the middle of the front circle draw 2 big egg eyes. Colour a big black dot in each.
Step 4: Smile and cheeks
Under the eyes draw a wide U smile from eye to eye. Add a small oval cheek beside each end.
Step 5: Wire edge
Inside the back circle draw a smaller curve, starting and ending at the front circle, leaving a thin rim.
Tip The thin rim is the wooden end of the spool.
Step 6: Wound wire
Draw 3 curved lines across the wire, each starting and ending at the front circle, spaced out evenly.
Tip Each curve is one loop of wire round the spool.
Step 7: The loose wire
From the top of the wound wire draw 2 close lines swooping right, down into a U and up.
Step 8: Bare copper end
From the end of the wire draw a short, thinner bit poking up: the bare copper.
Step 9: Floor and sparkles
Draw a floor line under the spool from the left edge to the middle, and 3 sparkles in the air.
Step 10: Pink and yellow
Go over your lines, then colour the cheeks pink and the 3 sparkles yellow.
Step 11: Ginger copper
Colour the bare end ginger for the copper.
Step 12: Wood spool
Colour the front circle and the thin back rim wood brown, around the face. Leave the eyes white.
Step 13: Blue wire
Colour the wound wire and the loose wire blue.
