How to Draw a Whale Shark
Draw a whale shark in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: wide flat nose.
Step 1: Wide flat nose
On the left start high. Sweep forward into a broad flat front, curve back under, and stop below your start.
Tip Wide and flat like a bus, not pointy.
Step 2: One huge eye
Behind the nose draw one huge round eye. Fill it with a big black dot and a white shine.
Step 3: Back and top fin
Start at the nose top. Draw a hill up into a sail fin, then glide back to the tail.
Tip No dip before the fin: the back climbs right into it.
Step 4: The tail
Start on the tail neck. Swing up into a long fin, in to a notch, then a short fin down.
Tip Lopsided: long on top, short below. Stop under your start.
Step 5: Round tummy
Start at the chin. Draw one big round sag under the body, then curve up to the tail.
Step 6: Wide smile
Start on the nose's front edge. Draw one long wide smile back, sweeping up to stop under the eye.
Step 7: Rows of spots
On the top half of the body draw lots of little round spots in wobbly rows. Skip the eye.
Step 8: Gills
Just behind the eye draw 3 short curves side by side, like ) ) ), the middle one tallest.
Step 9: Tummy stripe
Start on the nose front, below the smile. Draw one long curve back along the side, stopping at the tail.
Step 10: Side fin
Start on the stripe behind the gills. Draw a fin sweeping down to a round tip, then back up.
Step 11: Cream tummy, pink cheek
Colour the tummy cream and dab a pink cheek by the smile. Leave the eye and spots white.
Step 12: Grey top
Go over your lines. Colour above the stripe and the side fin grey, around the eye, spots and cheek.
